Eloy Oakley, the former Chancellor of the California Community College System, interviewed me for his The Rant podcast, with the episode released today. The episode is available here along with a full transcript, on any of your favorite podcasting platforms, and as video on YouTube.

I really enjoyed the conversation, which covered topics:

  • My genius business plan that got me into EdTech (1:57)

  • Bipartisan legislation to expand Pell grants to short-term programs (4:15)

  • Turmoil in the OPM market and crisis at 2U (10:00)

  • Online education models for community colleges and whether OPMs will play a role (22:43)

  • What if ED asked me for regulatory advice (28:57)

  • The stories I’ll be following in 2024 (34:11)

Give the whole episode a listen, but I’ll include the transcript below on the the question of online education at community colleges. The trigger for this discussion was Morgan’s fall post “Online Education Growth in Community Colleges in the US.” Eloy even got a fun dig in (at 26:07) about my past criticism of Calbright College, which was created under his leadership.
